Joomla as a Online Learning Tool

FindingsĀ  & Issues

  • Joomla well suited to organising and presenting information in creative and attractive formats.
  • Most teachers and students would be able to edit a Joomla website as it only requires a basic knowledge.
  • Management and publishing of articles can be restricted at various user levels.
  • Administration of the site is reasonably simple once you have developed an understanding of the various components.
  • Joomla has the potential to include many features including interactive type modules which would be important in an online learning environment, however they are not automatically included in the free templates.
  • To create an effective interactive online learning site with Joomla it would be best to employ an expert to set up the template with the required features first.

In conclusion I believe that Joomla is a powerful Content Management System but not necessarily the best “Learning Management System”. If I wanted to create a dynamic and interactive online learning course I think the best option would be to link to a Moodle course from within my school’s Joomla site.
